Our History
Genesee Valley Chimney Sweep began in 1981 by Chris Banker. Since then, he was a one-man one-van show. During this time, the market for chimney sweeps was not saturated in the industry – so Chris had jumped on the opportunity before anyone else could in the area. He saw a need for it with chimneys, fires, creosote causing prolonged problems that ultimately could cost homeowners more money over time to fix – if not taken care of quickly and efficiently.
Chris then decided to learn the industry and sought out to keep homeowners safe by keeping their chimneys and fire appliances clean and maintained. Over the course of the next 41 years, he grew and developed the industry in the area, and established Genesee Valley Chimney as one of the top names in the area.
Our History Continued…
Back in 2017, Leonard Tompkins and his mother were shopping around for chimney services, and they were quoted an estimate of over $8,000 for services that they did not need on the chimney. Luckily Chris from Genesee Valley was recommended to them, and he was able to diagnose and fix the issues all for under $800. Chris was very thorough and saw the project through to completion with the help of Leonard. Leonard saw and recognized Chris’ work ethic and decided to join him in extending the legacy of Genesee Valley Chimney Sweep. Leonard is now the current owner / operator of the company, with a mission to continue the next generation by carrying on Chris’s moral ethics, integrity, honesty, and transparency. All while continuously delivering the promise of keeping people warm and happy while maintaining industry codes and standards.
